Sheath

(Column)

A sheath wedding dress skims the body and falls straight to the floor below the hips. Also referred to as a column dress, sheath tend to be slim-fitting gowns with a straight narrow shape. If you want to accentuate your figure and flatter your curves this is a beautiful choice.

Frequently Asked Questions

During these uncertain times, we are continuing to take in-person appointments for bridal fittings at our Ryde showroom. As the Australian Government continues to respond to the COVID-19, please be patient as we update our business practices to ensure your safety and those of the community.

All wedding dress viewing and fittings will be by appointment only. That is, no walk-in customers will be accepted.

Similarly, we request that you come to your bridal gown fitting with a maximum of three (3) additional guests or as NSW Health advises. All visitors must wear a mask as per NSW public health regulation.

Thank you for your understanding and we look forward to helping you find your dream wedding dress.

The sheath or column wedding dress has a long, slim silhouette that follows the wearer’s natural body line without any flaring. It can have a hemline that sits anywhere from mid-thigh to mid-calf.

Sheath gowns area sleek, often free-flowing and modern choice. Also known as the column silhouette, for the bride who wants to tear up the dance floor, this style gives you plenty of freedom.

Due to their simple and minimalistic nature, you can add drama by incorporating a cathedral length veil.

A sheath wedding dress can be strapless and non-strapless.

Sheath wedding dresses can have long sleeves, be made entirely of satin material, be backless, have a high leg slit, have flutter sleeves, feature an illusion bodice, have a deep v-neck, be beaded, have cap sleeves, and pretty much anything you want.

So yes! Sheath wedding dresses are definitely in trend.

In 1955, Marilyn Monroe wore light beige, figure-hugging wedding gown designed by Norman Norell and John Moore.

More recently, Idina Menzel (Disney’s Frozen vocal artist) wore a floor-length lace sheath wedding dress with off-shoulder flutter sleeves. It was designed by Carolina Herrera.

Bridal sizing is very different to normal clothing sizes. That is, wedding dresses tend to run smaller than your regular size.

We use the US standard sizing system and our in-store sample dresses range from size 8 – 12. A few of the sample gowns are available in plus sizes.

Most of our wedding gowns can be ordered in size 0 through 16.
