Frequently Asked Questions

A mermaid wedding dress is characterised by a fitted style that will typically hug the body of the bride. The style of cut flares outat or below the knee which creates a mermaid-like tail (hence why it is also referred to as a fish-tail silhouette).

The tail will often feature beads, ruffles, and/or lace.

A mermaid wedding dress can have any length of train and can be strapless.

The stylish glamour-style cut comes in many forms strapless (with lace corset), backless, lace, long sleeve, cap sleeve, in satin, with straps, in silk, long train, off-the-shoulder, and with a leg slit.

The origin of the mermaid cut dress is said to be introduced in the 1930s by French designer Marcel Rochas.

Each year tends to have a trending silhouette (mostly influenced by the previous years celebrity weddings).

Mermaid wedding dresses have always been popular and are unlikely to go out of fashion. A modern twist on the classic favourite is to have a high-low gown.

Our recommendation is to ignore what is in fashion and instead, go to a bridal store and try on as many different styles as you can and choose one that feels and looks great on you.

Mermaid wedding dresses do tend to be restrictive for extension walking around due to the body-hugging nature of the cut. They can also make dancing a bit difficult so if you are the type of girl to get down on the dance floor, be forewarned.

Bridal sizing is very different to normal clothing sizes. That is, wedding dresses tend to run smaller than your regular size.

We use the US standard sizing system and our in-store sample dresses range from size 8 – 12. A few of the sample gowns are available in plus sizes.

Most of our wedding gowns can be ordered in size 0 through 16.
