Ask 5 different people what a classic wedding dress is and you will get 5 different answers.

A classic wedding gown is probably what you would have seen countless Disney princesses wear. This doesn’t necessarily mean a ballgown silhouette but in many cases, a classic wedding dress silhouette follows a similar shape. That is, tight at the top with a dramatic and full skirt.

At Emerald Bridal, we have taken a modern approach to what a classic wedding dress entails and we’re sure you will find something you’ll love on this page.

Traditional Wedding Dresses FAQs: Answered

If we go back to the origins to why a wedding dress is white, it is due to one particular royal – Queen Victoria who wore a white lace dress at her wedding. In more modern times, many wedding dress fabrics are available in off-white and ivory.

A classic wedding dress is one that isn’t over-top-top. They tend to be ballgown, trumpet, a-line, or sheath in design.

Some people interpret a traditional wedding dress as being conservative but we like our brides to express themselves in whatever way they desire. This is why our range of classic wedding dresses will have leg slits, have illusion necklines, plunging necklines, and even pockets! Yes pockets!

Both have side seams that run vertically from the shoulder to the hem. The main difference is that the bodice is fitted at the waist in ball gown dresses with a full skirt where as an a-line does not have a full skirt.

In all honesty, there is no way of knowing until you try a dress on and look in the mirror.

There are all sorts of online advice on what bridal dresses suit a particular type of body shape. Ignore these! The best wedding dress is the one that makes you feel confident and comfortable.
