At Emerald Bridal, the a-line design style is our favourite. This is because it is so versatile it can have a v-line back, be strapless, have long sleeves, have a sweetheart neckline and be made of various materials (satin, lace, tulle).

An a-line wedding dress is something between a sheath and a ball gown silhouette. That is, the skirt flares out from the waist more than a sheath gown but not as dramatically as ball gown designs.

The a-line wedding dress is a classic silhouette that is characterised by a skirt fitted at the hips and gradually widens towards the hem. They are designed to thin the appearance of the hips whilst still creating a feminine shape of slim waisted curves.

Basically, the overall shape of the style is of a capital letter A (hence the name).

Championed by Dior and Yves Saint Laurent, the A-line saw a revival in the early 2000s and continues to be a popular silhouette for brides (because it is universally flattering for all body shapes).

In Australia (and for UK brides) bridal stores will also refer to a-line as fit-and-flare. This differs to North America where fit-and-flare wedding dresses flare from mid-waist and has a fuller skirt.

Bridal sizing is very different to normal clothing sizes. That is, wedding dresses tend to run smaller than your regular size.

We use the US standard sizing system and our in-store sample dresses range from size 8 – 12. A few of the sample gowns are available in plus sizes.

Most of our wedding gowns can be ordered in size 0 through 16.

Yes, an appointment is required for a fitting at our Sydney bridal showroom.

We insist our customers to come in for a personalised fitting. For this reason, we do not have an online shopping cart because we want each bride to experience what it feels like to try on a wedding dress and to find the one.

You can, however, make an appointment by phone or email to view and try on multiple dresses.

Our appointments run for 60-minutes.
