The mermaid wedding dress is a fitted, body-hugging gown that shapes over the line of your hips and thighs then subtly flares out below your knee. The stylish glamour-style cut comes in many forms – strapless (with lace corset), backless, lace, long sleeve, cap sleeve, in satin, with straps, in silk, long train, off-the-shoulder, and with a leg slit.
The mermaid silhouette has an iconic hourglass silhouette.
The origin of the mermaid cut dress is said to be introduced in the 1930s by French designer Marcel Rochas.

Mermaid Wedding Dresses FAQs (Answered)
What is a mermaid wedding dress?
A mermaid wedding dress is characterised by a fitted style that will typically hug the body of the bride. The style of cut flares out at or below the knee which creates a mermaid-like tail (hence why it is also referred to as a fish-tail silhouette).
The tail will often feature beads, ruffles, and/or lace.
Mermaid dresses can have any length of train and can be strapless.
Are mermaid wedding dresses in trend right now?
Each year tends to have a trending silhouette (mostly influenced by the previous year’s celebrity weddings).
Mermaid wedding dresses have always been popular and are unlikely to go out of fashion. A modern twist on the classic favourite is to have a high-low gown.
Our recommendation is to ignore what is “in fashion” and instead, go to a bridal store and try on as many different styles as you can and choose one that feels and looks great on you.
What sizes are your sample dress?
We can order most designs in sizes 4-20.
We have sizes 8-12 for you to try on in our Sydney boutique (29 Devlin St, Ryde NSW 211).
If I intend to walk around a bit on my wedding day is a mermaid wedding dress bad decision?
Mermaid wedding dresses do tend to be restrictive for extension walking around due to the body-hugging nature of the cut. They can also make dancing a bit difficult so if you are the type of girl to get down on the dance floor, be forewarned.
Can I order by phone?
We insist our customers to come in for a personalised fitting. For this reason, we do not have an online shopping cart because we want each bride to experience what it feels like to try on a wedding dress and to find ‘the one’.
You can, however, make an appointment by phone or email to view and try on multiple dresses.
Our appointments run for 60-minutes.
